Leadership at a Turning Point:
Navigating Trust, Value, and Accountability in Higher Education

Thursday, March 26
4:00 pm – 5:00 pm (Pacific)
Virtual Panel Discussion

We invite you to join us for a timely high-level conversation on the wide-ranging pressures facing higher education, from affordability and access to governance, fundraising, and public trust.

Leadership at a Turning Point: Navigating Trust, Value, and Accountability in Higher Education

Colleges and universities are navigating an increasingly complex environment—marked by heightened scrutiny of cost and value, evolving donor expectations, expanding regulation, and new financial obligations tied to athletics and student outcomes. These pressures are converging at a moment when public confidence in the return on investment of higher education is being actively questioned, placing unprecedented pressure on institutional leadership and boards.

Join us for a one-hour Zoom discussion with three IWF members who are national leaders in higher-education as we examine how institutions, trustees, and executive teams are navigating these intersecting challenges—and what lies ahead.

Key discussion themes will include:

  • Affordability, access, and the widening perception gap around the value of higher education
  • Emerging regulations that affect student borrowing and assess the return on investment of academic programs—and how these may shape enrollment, program offerings, and graduate outcomes
  • The evolving relationship between annual giving, major gifts, and endowment support as donors reassess impact, control, and institutional trust
  • How investment performance, payout expectations, and transparency are influencing donor confidence, fundraising strategy, and stewardship conversations

Panelists:

  • Kara Freeman - IWF Washington DC, President & CEO, National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO)
  • Barbara K. Mistick - IWF Pittsburgh and Washington DC, President & CEO, National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU)
  • Van Ton-Quinlivan - IWF Northern California, CEO, Futuro Health, Former Executive Vice Chancellor, California Community Colleges
  • Valentina Glaviano - IWF Northern California and Washington DC, Moderator

We hope you’ll join us for this important and timely conversation.
